On this week’s episode of Ferris Out Loud the host, Ryan Pilon, Da’Shanya Williams, Sara Keilman, and guest Shara Varenhorst start off by talking about what’s trending right now, the main topic being hurricane Helen. They then dive into debate and game time. They end the episode by highlighting upcoming events on campus to look forward to!
What’s Trending?
Host Ryan Pilon starts the discussion to talk about Hurricane Helene and the devastation it caused to the coast and disaster relief. They go on to talk about personal experiences with their own natural disasters. The hosts draw a contrast between living in the south and Michigan when it comes to natural disasters. Our hosts also look at the path Helene took and how far it made it, reaching as far as Ohio.
Win for Ferris! Our hosts talk about Ferris’ big win against AIC, setting a school record; the final score was 84 to 7. Ryan discusses how in grade school there would be a mercy rule.
The juice is loose! Next, our hosts try the limited-edition Beetlejuice-themed Fanta. They have a conversation about how the Beetlejuice haunted apple flavor tastes like apples and cinnamon and if they like it or not.
Debate
On Debate, the hosts discuss the topics of Fall and the spooky season in general. They first debated on an “Apple Orchard or a Pumpkin Patch.” Sara, Da’Shanya, and Shara pick apple orchards while Ryan picks pumpkin patch. During their debate, they mention how both pumpkins and apples can be freshly picked at their respective places. After that, they debate “Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie” and whether they are better hot or cold. Sara and Shara both agreed that they liked to eat their pies warm. Their last debate was about “Haunted Houses or Corn Mazes?” All but Ryan picked Haunted Houses, which shocked everyone.
Game Time
The hosts and guest played a game where they had to try and guess between two options which topic or person had the highest search results. Some of them included “Minecraft vs. Pokémon,” “Ryan Reynolds vs. Ryan Gosling,” and “Batman vs. Superman.” Most of the time, they found the right answers thanks to them trending more in the media, like how Ryan Reynolds had more search results than Gosling, partially thanks to the recent success of “Deadpool and Wolverine.” However, they did find some unexpected results, such as Abraham Lincoln having more search results than George Washington. They found themselves to be fairly good at guessing overall within this game.
