In the latest episode of Ferris Sports Update, guest host Brody Keiser is joined by Football Kicker/Punter Mitchell Middleton, Head Volleyball Coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, and Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team Andy Bronkema.
In the beginning we have our host Brody Keiser interviewing Mitch Middleton, the football punter/kicker. They discuss the season’s overall results, acknowledging their loss at the start of the semester and initial flaws. They then talk about how much improved over time; winning every game in the process afterwards. When asked about preparing for his role, Mitch mentions that his experience playing the game, as well as his support from the coaches and players helps him get through the games.
The team’s offense gradually improved over time, and he hopes to keep it up. It is also mentioned in the interview that Mitch was initially the running-back, however he decided to become the kicker/punter since he was better at that position. Before graduating, Mitch has one more year and we will be hosting the playoff run until the championship. The team overall is trying to focus on themselves to win more games.
Mitch acknowledges that they do not have many reps as they are focused on Quality over Quantity. The next game has the team going up against Central Oklahoma. Mitch plans to go home and see his family right after practicing early in the morning for Thanksgiving. Brody and Mitch conclude the interview with Mitch saying that his takeaway from the experience is that hard work, determination and focusing on yourself will help you win.

Next, Host Brody Keiser is joined by Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, Head Coach of the Ferris State Volleyball team. The recent tournament started off against Purdue Northwest, finishing 3-0. The game was close, but the Bulldogs were able to come through with a win. The team’s confidence is definitely up after being successful against such a persistent team. The next game against Michigan tech also ended in a win, being very close as well. Tech was able to steal a set, but in the end we took home a win still. This season the team’s defense especially is doing well. Sunday, the gliac championship was hosted here at Bulldog arena and was against Grand Valley. The game started a bit slower, however that did not stop the team from remaining calm and resilient, getting the job done under pressure. Tia talks on working towards improving, whether big or small, and how that mindset is helping them be successful this season.
Finally, Brody talks with Andy Bronkema, Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball team on their recent wins. The team had a long weekend with a fast turn around, bouncing from Big Rapids immediately back to Ashlyn. Lots of big moments from that game, coming down to the wire. Despite the team’s busy schedule and tiring job, they were able to come home and still take the win. Andy talks on knowing where he wants the team to be, and how he is working on improving the team individually. Whether that’s in practice or on the court, he won’t be satisfied until the results truly show. Andy also highlights different players strengths the past few games, as well as some good moments from the games this weekend. He wants to see the guys improve on a lot, but mainly hopes to see them put the team before themselves.
That’s all for this week of Ferris Sports Update, we hope you enjoyed and hope to see you next week for another episode.
