Welcome to the first Ferris In Focus episode of the 2023-24 school year! In this first episode, we take a look at seven different aspects of Ferris life, ranging from an update on Ferris’ new Center for Virtual Learning, popular media trends, and more!
Big Rapids Life
Welcome to the Center for Virtual Learning (CVL). The CVL is the newest building on the Ferris State Big Rapids campus and is home to majors such as TDMP and DAGD who use technology in an innovative and interactive way. Assistant Professor Andrew Tingley and Associate Professor Vaarun Singireddy express their excitement about the new home for the School of Digital Media. They talk about the new classrooms, the audio booths, the green screen room, and the E-sports arena that are now all in the same building. Students Christian Gary and Kelsey Meyers also enthuse about the new building, saying the new space has caused their learning to thrive. But most of all, it has helped them find a community with the other students, creating a comfortable atmosphere for current students and a welcoming atmosphere for potential ones.
Ferris Asks
Jumping on the popular social media trend, Nolan Harris goes around campus to see if Ferris students know anything about the Roman Empire. Answers ranged from Caesar being the first emperor of Rome to Rome not existing anymore to that Rome is in Europe. Keeping with the trend one guy knew a lot more about the Roman Empire than the average person, giving his opinion on how bad of an emperor Nero was and then answering with Caesar’s infamous backstabbing. Overall, it was a lot of fun to see this social media trend brought to life. Could you name one true fact about the Roman Empire?
Mealtime
Learn how to make savory Cajun Alfredo Pasta on this week’s edition of “Mealtime.” This simple meal requires only eight ingredients and has a fairly short cooking time, making it perfect for an easy weekday dinner.
Program Spotlight
In the program spotlight segment on this episode of Ferris in focus, the crew takes a deeper look into the television and digital media production major. You get to hear how the professors feel about their dedication towards the craft they teach. As well as a range of different year students on their experience thus far.
Red Dead Redemption
The episode follows up with Junior sports communication student/outlaw Dylan Rider and his trusty steed takes a ride through western times as he explains to us why red dead redemption is his favorite game. In an action packed comedic segment, he gets real in depth about his infatuation with the game. If you’ve never played it before looking at this hilarious skit, guaranteed you would want to after seeing Dylan’s commitment.
College Kids Cribs
After that, the episode goes on to the segment College Kids Cribs where Emma, a senior in TDMP major, gives us a tour of her crib. She starts in the living area where she has amazing wine-night art on the walls as well as an abundance of board games. She follows up by showing her roommates hidden ducks throughout the house. She also gives a tip to new students to buy a white board to keep track of chores. Keeping it seasonal with fall décor around the house. She finishes with a tour of her room, where she has a stack of books right by the bed because reading is fundamental.
Animals of the ARC
Last but not least, the crew gives a visit to Baymax the dog in the last segment of the show, Animals of the arc. Baymax is a very cuddly 2-year-old Pitbull mix available for adoption at the Animal rescue coalition. He loves walks with his harness, but be careful he is a big boy so if you’re interested, be sure to walk his and not the other way around.
