Welcome to an exciting episode of Ferris Out Loud! This week our hosts Ryan, Da’Shanya, Brayden, and Sara discuss what’s trending online, have a debate about what the best fall drink is, play a game of campus GeoGuessr, and even talk about upcoming events on campus.
What’s Trending?
On this series premiere episode of Ferris Out Loud, our host Ryan Pilon makes sure to have the guests introduce themselves. Da’Shanya Williams is first, she explains that she’s majoring in digital animation and game design and a fun fact about her, she’s learning Japanese. Our next guest is Brayden Gebbink, his major is public relations, and he’s traveled to 38 states. Our final guest is Sara Keilman who is in hospitality management, and she says she’s just here to have fun. Ryan then shifts the conversation to what’s trending on campus. He says that we are experiencing some of the biggest news Ferris State has ever had. He announces that there will be a new dorm built near the football field. Brayden asks for clarification on where exactly the new dorm will be on the football field. Ryan then clarifies the confusion by showing a map of where exactly the new dorm will be. It will be on the west side of the football field next to Hallsy Hall. The guests are all in awe when watching the video demo of the virtual tour of the new dorm. The section concludes with all guests and the host being excited about the new hall.
Did you know that there is a Minecraft movie coming out? As it turns out warner bros. is releasing the long awaited Minecraft movie and it is looking… interesting. While the game is made of blocks and is a sandbox ready for creativity, the movie appears to be a simple adventure movie that may need some constructive criticism and a whole lot of love given to the strange visuals. Despite the criticisms though it will be interesting to see how it may fair in the box office.
Debate
Because the first day of fall is coming up, today’s debate topic follows suit. Our hosts have a discussion on whether apple cider or pumpkin spice drinks are better. It’s three against one on this topic as Sara loves pumpkin spice and the rest of the panel begs to differ. It is said that apple cider brings the severe nostalgia that pumpkin spice could never. However, this debate topic wasn’t the only one to be discussed today. Is apple cider best served hot or cold? Is there a reason to have an acronym that defines pumpkin spice drinks? The world may never know.
Game Time
For their third segment, Game Time, our hosts play a variation for Ferris State GeoGuessr. They were provided with ten different photos representing locations on campus at Ferris State University.
Ryan knows the answers to each location. Da’Shanya, Brayden, and Sara beat and banter about what each location could be. Some use their previous history of playing GeoGuessr to find clues in each image to help the hosts guess correctly. GeoGuessr is an up-and-rising game that uses Google Maps to have players try to guess what location they are in the world. Players are shown a Google Street View image and have a limited amount of time to guess. Because of its growing popularity all over the internet, the game has gone as far as creating a professional esports tournament where the best players come together to compete.
Campus Events
Ryan highlights several upcoming campus events and sports matchups. On Wednesday, September 25th, FLITE will host therapy dogs at the FLITE Deck. In sports, the women’s undefeated volleyball team will play an away game against Northern Michigan, the football team will compete in the American Invitational, and women’s soccer will face Davenport University at home on Sunday, September 29th at 1 pm Additionally, Ferris will host Roboday on Saturday, September 28th at the Wink Arena.
