In the latest episode of Ferris Sports Update, our host Rob Bentley speaks with head football coach Tony Annese, Volleyball head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, and soccer head coach Greg Henson.
Football
Our first guest, Head Football Coach Tony Annese starts off with talking about the teams recent flights. The team flew down to Connecticut and traveled from there to Springfield Massachusetts to play a winning game with an end score of 84 to 7.
This next week the bulldogs take on Roosevelt University, a newcomer to the league for the Ferris homecoming game. As Roosevelt is new to the league, it’ll be difficult to know what our bulldogs are up against. It’ll be an exciting homecoming game as we play an unseen team with alumni present. We’ll be honoring the 2014 Gliac champions who were undefeated in their regular season, so make sure you don’t miss it!

Volleyball
Our host Rob Bentley sits down with head volleyball coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm about the excitement built around their first home game after their long road stretch of away games. Tia explains how it’s been long but very good for the team as they got to explore different places and spend a lot of time together as a team and build their team connection. The team has a great dynamic with the incoming freshman and the return players as well. Rob and Tia dive into this past weekend as the team was in the Upper Peninsula playing against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, both are better teams in the GLIAC. Brandel-Wilhelm goes to talk about how this is the deepest their conference has been in a few years, and they are playing really good teams which makes it really fun to play and really impressive to see. Brandel-Wilhelm says they take every game and try and get a little bit better for the next game. They are very excited for this weekend to be home and have so much going on with homecoming and to welcome back the 2004 team that won the GLAIC championship. The matchups this weekend are great competitors and make it for an exciting weekend for the Ferris volleyball team. Go Bulldogs!

Soccer
Rob Bentley, is joined by Head Soccer Coach Greg Henson to discuss how unique it
was to only have one game this past weekend. Having an extra day off is essential for rest
stated by Coach Greg Henson. Working on fundamentals and resting key players is the key to
success for this program. Players that don’t seek much action in games have the opportunity to
work on their skills. Coach Greg Henson states that it is a challenge that comes with only having
one game instead of two, and that is getting out of routine. Coach Henson saw the improvement
in the game on Sunday from the work that they put in over the course of the week. Even though
it wasn’t a win, it wasn’t a loss either. Coach Henson states that when the players stick to the
game plan the execution was great and that there were times when Davenport took the
Bulldogs out of their game plan. The Bulldogs tied with the Davenport Panthers. There has been
a tie the last three times the two great teams met. Senior day was also this past weekend where
there was a large crowd for the ten seniors on the team. Finally, Coach Henson talks about how
he is certainly confident about their team as they are still unbeaten in GLIAC play.
