Ferris Sports Update 10.23.24

In this week’s episode of Ferris Sports Update, host Rob Bentley sits down with Football head coach Tony Annese to discuss the rest of the Football season. Men’s Basketball head coach Andy Bronkema joins the show speak about his expectations coming into the approaching season. Head soccer coach Greg Henson also joins to discuss their recent games.

Football

Rob talks with the head coach of the football team Tony Annese about the most recent Bulldog victory against the Michigan Tech Huskies. At the start of the game, the Bulldog defense locked the first quarter down, allowing the offense to create a 20-to-nothing lead. During the second quarter, the Huskies got on the board, though the Bulldogs continued their march towards victory, leaving the first half with scores of 13 to 30. The second half saw the Bulldogs continuing their domination of the game, getting 21 more points and leaving the Huskies in the dust with a final score of 13 – 51

Tony believes that this was a great showing by the bulldogs and with this victory under their belt, there are now 4 games left in the regular season with the next game against the Grand Valley Lakers being one of the most important ones yet. Tony thinks that what the Bulldogs need to do in the upcoming game is to start out strong, hopefully letting the team build a buffer and then finish out the game from there. This game will be held on October 26th at Grand Valley.

Basketball

Rob sits down with Andy Bronkema the head coach of the Men’s Basketball team at Ferris State University. As the team gears up for a new season, Coach Bronkema shares insights on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

A Two-Semester Journey

Basketball at Ferris is a two-semester season, and Coach Bronkema emphasizes the hard work required to sustain momentum throughout. “Every day is an opportunity to improve,” he notes, highlighting the importance of dedication and commitment from both coaches and players.

Navigating Change

This year, the team faces the challenge of losing six seniors, resulting in a younger roster. Coach Bronkema discusses how this transition presents both obstacles and opportunities for development. “We’re focused on making everyone better, helping our younger players step up,” he explains.

Soccer

Finally, Rob is joined by Women’s Soccer head coach Greg Henson. Henson starts by discussing the road ahead in the final stretch of the year. He appreciates the fact that many of their games will be against divisional opponents, which he says are always tough, but he welcomes the familiarity. They then move on to discuss the teams’ 4-1 loss against Northern Michigan University last Friday. Henson believes that it was a tough matchup, but he is confident in their chances if they meet NMU again down the road.
