Football: Bulldogs Earn GLIAC Championship Spot with Tough Win

The episode opens with head football coach Tony Annese discussing the Bulldogs’ hard-fought victory over Saginaw Valley State University, which clinched their spot in the GLIAC Championship. Reflecting on the close game, Coach Annese expressed relief at securing the win, though he noted there were areas for improvement, particularly in reducing costly turnovers that almost jeopardized the team’s performance. He highlighted the impressive play of quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, commending his arm strength, ability to move the chains, and playmaking skills. Despite the defense successfully closing out the game, Annese emphasized a desire to see the offense end the game with the ball to maintain control. Looking ahead, he’s eager for the upcoming match against Davenport University, where the team will honor its seniors during the Calder City Classic rivalry game.

The spotlight then shifts to Ferris State volleyball, led by head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm. The Bulldogs have been dominating the season, and this weekend’s back-to-back wins added to their impressive streak. Coach Wilhelm praised the supportive atmosphere as fans and athletes from different teams came together to cheer on the Bulldogs. This unity, she says, fuels the team’s energy and resilience, which were on full display as they faced Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. Wilhelm highlighted senior setter Kaylee Maat’s record-breaking achievement as she became the GLIAC’s all-time career assists leader, a milestone that speaks to her dedication and skill. The Bulldogs swept Northern Michigan 3-0 on Friday night, winning sets 25-15, 26-24, and 25-22, led by senior Olivia Henneman-Dallape’s 13 kills and freshman Gabby Piazza’s 10 kills. The team continued their winning momentum with another 3-0 sweep over Michigan Tech on Saturday’s Senior Day, finishing their home season undefeated and extending their record to 26-0. With the regular season winding down, Ferris State will now head on the road for games against Purdue Northwest and Parkside.

Hockey: Bulldogs Battle Hard in Losses to Michigan Tech

The episode wraps up with insights from Ferris State hockey head coach Bob Daniels, who reflects on the team’s recent series against Michigan Tech. Coach Daniels applauds the home crowd’s energy, especially from the “Dog Pound” student section, which added intensity to the games. Despite a spirited effort, Ferris State fell short, with penalties and defensive challenges proving costly. Coach Daniels acknowledged the young team’s resilience, crediting transfers like Cole Burtch for stepping up and helping the Bulldogs stay competitive. In the first game of the series, a close 3-2 loss, Burtch assisted on Gavin Best’s goal and later scored himself, but Ferris couldn’t equalize despite putting 25 shots on goal. The team fell again 3-1 in the second game after an early deficit; freshman goalie Connor McDonough was replaced by Noah West, who managed 19 saves. Daniels remains optimistic about the team’s progress, noting their hard work and adaptability. Next, they’ll prepare for a series against Lake Superior State University, with games in Sault Ste. Marie and Traverse City.
